Hurricane Audrey came barrelling across the Gulf of Mexico on June 27, 1957, forever chaning the lives of Cameron Parish residents. It was a Category Four Hurricane, the first hurricane in the memory of the very oldest Gulf Coast residents- or even in legends handed down from generation to generation- when water of such magnitude covered Cameron Parish. Nothing in anyone's experiences, knowledge or imagniation, prepared them for the deadly tidal surge and tremendous waves, that rushed over the unsuspecting people on June 27, 1957.
Nola Mae Ross was born and raised just a few miles north of Cameron Parish. She experienced Hurricane Audrey "from a distance." She says, "I cannot imagine how terrible it must have been for those in the midst of this raging giant."

Susan Goodson is the daughter of Nola Mae Ross. This is her first venture into the world of writing. She did most of the "legwork", tracing down survivors, recording their stories, and putting them on computer.
