  • Being a detailed account of the traditions, history and growth of the Town of Jennings which was founded in 1881 on the main line of what is now the Southern Pacific Railroad about five miles west of the Mermentau River.

To preserve the early history of Jennings for the benefit of future generations, this 1961 volume collected and mounted in this book about 400 pictures closely related to the early settlement of Jennings and vicinity. The pictures have been classified and furnished with brief identification titles and historical notes and explanations.

In preparing this collection of pictures and historical material, the author has endeavored to secure copies of all available “old time” photos connected with the early history of the Town of Jennings. (Some of these pictures date back to 1887 or 1890.)

Also included is a brief history of Calcasieu Parish before Jennings, a history of the building of the Railroad, and a chronological list of many “Jennings Firsts.” All of this has been done to prepare the material for permanent deposit in the files of the historical department of the Jennings Public Library for future reference.
