Don R. Simons has been the Interpreter at Lake Chicot State Park since 1983. His duties include researching area history. This led to the production of In Their Words. He is a former Chairman of the Southeast Arkansas Civil War Heritage Trail, a member of the Chicot County museum commission, and has been a Civil War reenactor since 1992. The National Association for Interpretation recognized Don as the 1997 Distinguished Professional Interpreter for Region 6, which includes the six states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. This is the region's highest honor.
