“Leesville was named in honor of General Robert E. Lee by Edmund E. Smart, who gave the land for the parish seat. On early maps the area was called Hell’s Bay. The surrounding land was called Hog Waller on an 1876 map.”
“In 1917 about 200 colonists arrived by train from Llano, California. The New Llano colony had 29 industries, some of which were a broom factory, harness shop, ice plant, print shop, and eight farm/ranch ventures including agriculture, dairy, poultry, hog, sheep, and goat.”
