Bob Miller of Jennings, LA was an American soldier during the Vietnam War and was part of the first major pitched battle between U.S. and North Vietnamese forces in 1965. Of the 450 soldiers who followed General Moore into battle that day, 79 were killed and 121 were wounded.
Miller was one of the survivors. He continued to fight in the 43-day Ia Drang Valley Campaign, which resulted in 545 American deaths and gave the battlefield the name, “Death Valley.” Miller, a Jennings High School student who dropped out at age 17 and volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with V-Device for Valor, along with a Purple Heart and other honors for heroism.This is his story.
